If you’ve decided to open your own vaping products laboratory or plant, it can involve a complex system of practices. Laboratory procedurals will need to be set into place. There are many reasons to follow these practices. They can help your facility to pass FDA, OSHA, and other requirements. They can also help to keep your employees and workers safe, and even result in a profitable facility that produces high-quality vaping products.
Laboratory procedurals can govern the creation or the testing of chemicals or products. Good laboratory procedurals may also be part of good practices. They lessen the risk to create a high-quality product.
In the USA, the FDA has rules governing labs, especially when the resulting products are to be consumed by humans, such as when inhaling vaping products.
Good laboratory practices are also a part of laboratory procedurals, or GLP. This is basically a management system of quality controls for labs or facilities. It ensures that products will always retain the same consistency, efficacy, or quality, whether it’s the first batch your facility has produced, or the thousandth one. The idea of procedures were adopted in the USA in 1978, after New Zealand and Denmark led the way
Once good laboratory procedures have been established, they should be documented. These are made up into documents and then placed into binders or manuals. The manuals are stored in prominent spots in the laboratory. They provide a handy but quick reference to employees who may be questioning something in their work. They are there to assist new staff who may be learning. They are also there for the managers to refer to and to show employees who may need training.
General laboratory procedures can include a worker requirement being familiar with the types of materials they are working with. They should know how to safely handle them. If something goes wrong, they should know where the appropriate safety equipment is.
This may also include wearing specific types of clothing or avoiding wearing certain types of clothing or jewelry that may get caught up in equipment. It can involve wearing goggles, lab coats, or other types of safety equipment.
Laboratory procedurals may include the number of workers who work in the lab at any one time. It may include maximums, or minimums. It may govern whether food or drinks are allowed in the labs, or even pets. Smoking is generally never allowed, except for testing of vaping products.
It should include sanitation and cleanliness, and how to keep the lab and work surfaces tidy and clean. It may outline how to work with hazardous chemicals with the use of a fume hood. It may also mention if or when visitors are allowed.
